About Me

Hey there, I'm Cas Altenburg,

I'm not this IT boy who made websites at the age of 10 and hacked a bank at the age of 14.
I developed an interest in IT at a later stage in life. When I was younger I was more interest in chemistry, math and physics. After highschool I started studying Chemical Engineering on advice of my chemistry teacher. For various reasons this was not a great success, so I quit after 8 months.

After quiting I started working at a local hospitality company, to do some adminstrative work. This work (filling in Google Sheets with data from the website sales) was so boring and repetitive that I started looking for a way to automate it. I struggled and then to decided to call an old classmate who was studying computer science to help.
In one day, we automated a full day of work of one of the employees. I was so fascinated that by this that I decided study Software Engineering.

Since then I have been busy with developing myself as a software engineer, both with studying and working. Even though I'm interested all aspects of IT/Software Development, so far I gained most experience in frontend development. I love to work with Next.js more than I love to work with Angular, but in general I'm open for everything.

So far, everywhere I've worked, we've used Scrum, and I love the team dynamics that come with it. I wouldn't call myself the typical developer – I'm pretty outgoing and really enjoy working with others. It might sound cliché, but I genuinely thrive in a collaborative open environment.

One of my biggest dreams is to start my own business. Therefore I'm always looking for new ideas and opportunities, and I have a strong interest in the startup scene. To broaden my horizon, I want to gain experience in different fields and industries and learn as much as I can along the way

Beyond my work, I'm someone who values a balanced life. So next to living inside the computer there should also be room for social activities and sports. I'm a big fan of Ajax and enjoy spending quality time with friends and family.
